Strategic objectives

  • Structuring an environmental compensation action, in response to a critical position in the “Tonno in trappola” (Trapped Tuna) ranking highlighted by GreenPeace.
  • Consequently, to obtain a positive effect on the brand reputation.

Operation phases

  • Assessment and identification of potential marine protected areas, in which to carry out an environmental compensation action.
  • Drafting of a project to block illegal trawling in the Marine Protected Area of ​​the Egadi Islands.
  • Installation of anti-trawling deterrents and securing of the corresponding Posidonia Oceanica bank (the largest in the Mediterranean, essential for CO2 absorption and oxygen production).
  • Creation of a Sea Turtle Recovery Center + GDO competition to involve consumers and donate useful equipment.

Results

Effective elimination of the phenomenon of illegal trawling in the Egadi Marine Protected Area and protection of the Posidonia Oceanica bank.
Thanks to this operation, the return of 3 specimens of Monk Seal was witnessed: this endangered species had been missing from the Sicilian coasts since the 1970s.
Extensive media coverage (including TG1 news in prime time).
Improvement of corporate reputation: 30% over 6 years.

This operation with great environmental impact and value was welcomed with enthusiasm by the region and the scientific community as well as by the territory, giving visibility and restoring reputation to the brand.
